The Director of Adult Learner & Student Engagement provides strategic leadership to enhance the academic, personal, and professional success of adult learners while overseeing larger student engagement initiatives across the campus. The Director leads targeted efforts to attract and retain adult learners, expanding access to higher education. This role contributes to enhancing access, retention, and completion rates for working adults and returning learners while ensuring the provision of co-curricular campus and community activities to enhance the student experience. The Director will work with various college stakeholders to ensure that adult learners receive tailored support services and programming that meet their unique needs and life conditions.

The Director of Adult Learner & Student Engagement also leads and supports a team of two campus activity coordinators, who are responsible for student involvement and programming.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Adult Education, Counseling, or related field.
  • Program management experience with strong ties to community and workforce development agencies, including veteran services, and working and adult learner support services.
  • Minimum- 3 years of supervision experience.
  • Proven experience with data analysis and student information systems.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:

  • 5 years of supervision experience in higher education leadership or workforce, with demonstrated success in adult learner engagement and support.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
  • Familiarity with online and hybrid learning environments.
  • Experience with grant writing and program funding.

  • Local travel is required for outreach, student engagement, and partnership development, with occasional Statewide conferences.

Duty and Responsibility:

Program Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead campus-wide programming that promotes increased student involvement, leadership, and community connection.
  • In support of the student activity coordinators, manage budgets, grants, and vendor relationships.
  • Develop strategic plans to improve engagement, retention, and graduation rates for working adult learners.
  • Track student progress and outcomes; prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
· Use data to identify barriers and recommend improvements to policies and practices.

Duty and Responsibility:

Community Outreach & Partnerships

  • Develop and execute programming specifically targeting adult learners, including working professionals, returning students, and underserved populations.
  • Partner with the R3 Center (Recruit, Retrain, Refocus) and the apprenticeship & work-based learning coordinators to enhance student employability, career development, and job placement opportunities for adult learners.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to create compelling engagement materials and campaigns.
  • Represent the college at community events and educational forums to promote working and adult learning opportunities.
  • Build partnerships with community organizations and city leaders to promote the college’s impact on adult education and community development.
  • In collaboration with Student Wellness and Student Support Services, build relationships with community agencies and organizations to identify and support adult learner populations.

Duty and Responsibility:

Student Support & Engagement

  • Serve as the primary advocate and contact for a cohort of working adult learners and veteran students.
  • Partner with the wellness center and academic advising centers to provide mentoring, career services, and wellness programs tailored to adult learners, veteran students, and students who are parents.
  • Oversee planning and execution of campus events, workshops, orientations, and leadership development programs.
  • Work closely with academic departments, financial aid, admissions, and continuing education to support student success.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote inclusive teaching practices and flexible learning options.

Supervision & Team Development

  • Supervise two full-time student activity coordinators and other part-time staff and student workers.
  • Provide professional development and training to staff on adult learner needs and student engagement best practices.

  • Track student progress, engagement metrics, and program outcomes.
  • Prepare adult learner engagement reports to inform continuous improvement strategies.
  • Use data to identify barriers and recommend policy or programmatic changes.
